Mariposa, CA  Bob & Elizabeth Jakl’s 2-Rail ‘O’ Scale Layout

Near Yosemite National Park. American railroading, primarily in the 1950s, 60s, & 70s. Consists of three major railroads: Santa Fe (ATSF), the Burlington (CB&Q), and the Katy (MKT). 34' x 80' building. More than 2,000 feet of track and hundreds of switches are all hand-laid code 148 and 125 steel and nickel silver rail, spiked on over 50,000 homemade wood ties. Each section of rail has a feeder wire soldered to a power buss under the benchwork. One main 1100 watt power supply feeds several transistor-controlled throttles. Mainline operation and turnouts are controlled from the tower in the center of the room. Individual switching yards are locally controlled. Locomotives, passenger cars, freight cars, and cabooses are hand-built, painted, and numbered from prototype photographs taken during several years of railfanning. Beautiful Bill Leider mural.
