| Publisher Thomas H. Nixon As the president of Gate VI Publishing, Tom is completely responsible for all of OSN since 1989. He handles subscriptions, dealers, and related invoicing to dealers and advertisers. He is a retired C&NW manager, an avid Midwest rail enthusiast, 1/4" modeler (with a semi-neglected attic layout), fine photographer, and our final copy editor. Tom's biggest fault may be that he doesn't use an answering machine. | Tom may be reached at 630.833.3658 |
| Editor Greg Heier Greg is our main editor, photographer, and a reformed rivet counter. Greg is constantly fiddling with some small project — usually brass — and is interested in almost everything. His favorite railways include the C&NW and the CA&E. Greg is always looking for new articles and enjoys working with new writers. Older modelers and railfans may recognize his name from HEIER INDUSTRIAL PHOTOGRAPHY or the pages of Model Railroader, the NMRA Bulletin, the Chicago & North Western Historical Society's North Western Lines, Rail & Wire, Vane Jone's Traction & Models, or even all the way back to the first articles he published in the Illinois Central Railway magazine (1961). He learned to set type the old-fashioned way which makes him really appreciate the way the industry has advanced over the years. 48/ft, O Scale News is produced completely on computer and direct to press in 2002 which is a great deal easier than the old ways he struggled with in the 1960's and '70s. | Call Greg at 630.858.2128 or send him a brief Email |
| Associate Editor/Art Director Joy Forsberg Joy is always fiddling with the computer. Since we ventured into desktop publishing using PageMaker and PC's in the 1980s, she has sweated to make sure that our system stays up-to-date and functional. She also manages page details, advertising, email, supervising the website, the “Schedules” & “Club” columns and writes short articles from time to time. Currently working on reassembling a basket case when she can find all of the pieces she filed away. Joy began modeling in grade school. She began building in "O" in 1978 after being lured over to the BIG layout at a club she was visiting. Favorite railroad? This used to be the Southern and Milwaukee Road (blame local influences), but lately thinking modern freight and CN/UP. Her preferred building materials are wood and styrene. First published in 1974, she has over 15 years experience with small and large publications (primarily newspapers and magazines) before she began working with OSN in the 1980's. E-mail her the details of your O Scale club or events for inclusion in an upcoming issue. | Joy may be found at 630.858.2128 or online via Email. |
Publication Facilitator Phineas T. Purbal Phineas is know for quick file "sorts" and "end-stage" product testing. No box car is safe in his presence, but we are happy to attest that a Centerline track cleaner that he test-launched out a second story window survived meeting its crash into concrete — though it did need new plastic trucks and couplers. Phineas likes the Centerline track car a lot (it keeps the wheels clean on equipment in his area with no funny smells and cleans the track on his favorite switching module). InterMountain has also benefited through Phineas attention to detail. After shipping numerous courtesy replacements for gnawed parts, InterMountain came out with a line spare parts kits (at reasonable prices)! Due to his willingness to accept "fishy" bribes, Phineas is not allowed to handle reviews or "Company Mail." | P.T. is purrfectly happy not to accept phone calls and he does not answer email. |
| OSN features writers from all over. O and 0 gauge writers from the Australia, Austria, Belgium, Germany, Great Britain (UK), New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and more. New submissions should be in English with appropriate illustrations. Don't worry about conversions (monetary or millimeter), our staff will verify all of those. If you would like to submit an article via email or a regular postal service see our Writer's Guide above for information or email Joy Forsberg. |
