2003 O Scale National Convention Layout Tours

Miles of Layouts on tours including differing scales — below is a list of some of the home, club and hobby shop layouts that were mapped out for do-it-yourself tours in Dallas. Many of the 150 convention registrants never left the hotel area and enjoyed the two modular layouts that were on display: from the local boys, the Dallas-Fort Worth O Scalers modular set-up; and an even more elaborate, updated & completely sceniced modular layout from the Baton Rouge O Scalers. We never passed either of these layouts when there was not a small crowd circling their area.
Layouts on Tour
Cheapskate & Ohio Mike Walter 25% complete, 1/5 of track laid is O Scale & remainder is Gargraves. [O Scale & Tinplate]
Nevadan Railroad Jim Packer free-lanced well-known area layout featuring Colorado mountain scenery & steam operations. Jim also is giving a clinic on scenery.. [HO]]
North Fork Branch of the PRR Brady McGuire Located at Brady McGuires, see article in OSN 169 for details. Well done layout and display room that shows a journey still "under construction" and well worth the trip. [2-Rail O Scale]
Texas Midland Railway Dallas Ft. Worth O Scale Model RR Club Located at Dallas Union Station. 75% complete (established 1998). [2-Rail O Scale]
Texas Western John Smith's layout at Pecos River Brass 45'x60' modern peninsula-style layout that demonstrates many of the better points of John Armstrong's design suggestions (blobs etc.) plus John Smith's own perspective. See his lake, trees and cityscapes. GREAT perspective and one of few layouts that has realistic (and not undersized) trees. Additional photos availalbe online at the PRB website. [2-Rail O Scale]
Toy Train Unlimited Hobby Shop 40'x35' Hi-Rail UP & SF equipment. [3-Rail Tinplate/ Hi-Rail]
Virginian Railroad Michael Ross last chance before he moved. Mike Ross's Appalachian area coal hauling section. Visible two-level stud wall benchwork might be of interest and the "other Mike" often mentioned in OSN has a nearby 2-Rail O Scale layout on display.. [2-Rail O Scale]
