2003 O Scale National Convention • Hall of Fame

At the 2003 O Scale National Convention (159 paid attendees) there was no ballot included with the registration package upon arrival. Few worried as banquet tickets were also "missing" and people promised to "let you know."

The answer came later that week when at the 8:00 AM meeting of the O Scale Kings - O Scale SIG with less than 20 people in attendance. The 2003 O Scale National Convention Committee had passed this function over to this club founded in 1999 by John Smith of Pecos River Brass. The OSK committee chose three people — Al Armitage, Stu Kleinschmidt, and Rich Wagner — to be added to the O Scale Hall of Fame. OSK members also claimed ownership of the O Scale Hall of Fame and noted their methods were fairer (with slight insults to past committees including Chicago). The OSK member then called for a "hand" vote of the few people present to include these three in the O Scale Hall of Fame. Since our staff are not all OSK members and feeling that this was no longer "news"… most of us left at this point. Another OSK member told us that he also felt that the O Scale Hall of Fame should not be decided by this minority and had called for a vote to place the three named above on a ballot to be distributed to those dining at the Wednesday evening banquet,

Is anyone surprised that the OSK choices were "elected" to the O Scale Hall of Fame? We'll omit the "jokes" related to other write-in candidates. Another year, another O Scale Hall of Fame list one way or another. Since 1993, the O Scale Hall of Fame honorees have been nominated and elected by popular vote of the attendees at the annual O Scale National Convention. Listed below (by year and alphabetically) in the order they were inducted. Links below may be used to learn more about each of these O Scale Pioneers. All 2002-2003 links have been placed on hold for now. Who is running the O Scale Hall of Fame in the future? The answer to that question may decide whether OSN continues full coverage of it. There are many awards given each year by shows, clubs, and even the NMRA… since 1970, OSN has provided the annual O Scale National Convention with additional coverage and since 1993, the O Scale Hall of Fame has also been published under this umbrella.

Happy 10th Anniversay to the O Scale Hall of Fame

2003 Honorees: Al Armitage, Stu Kleinschmidt, and Rich Wagner.
