Illinois Railway Museums
Rossville Depot RR Museum
(south of Chicago — about 100 miles: no public transportation but maybe someone will pass it en route) The Depot Museum, built by the Chicago & Eastern Illinois RR in 1903, is restored to the 1950’s era of that former road. It sits adjacent to the Chicago-Nashville mainline of CSX and has mostly railroadiana and a great view.
Illinois Railway Museum
(Union, about an hour drive from the convention: no public transportation available ) Union, Illinois. Prototype, nice site many pictures. HUGE museum (possibly largest in world).
Monticello Railway Museum
(way south of Chicago, between Champaign-Urbana and Decatur — about 120 miles: no public transportation but maybe someone will pass it en route) Medium-sized roster, photos and other info online.
