Recertification
Important Certification Renewal Dates and Time Periods - Revised 6/4/02

* - Applies to year 2000 renewal

* * - Applies to year 2001 renewals

* * * - Applies to year 2002 renewals

* December 31, 2000 - Applications for early exchange of certificates are due by this date. A teacher might make such an application if they wished a qualifying professional development activity that they had completed between July 1, 2000 and January 1, 2001 to count toward the five year professional development requirement for a standard certificate. This applies to those who would otherwise renew July 1, 2001.

* January 1, 2001 - After this date, teachers who have exchanged their certificates and now have a five year standard teaching certificate must have submitted a Certificate Renewal Plan (CRP) before starting a new activity.

January 1, 2001 - If a teacher engages in an activity that requires a provider after this date, such as a workshop or symposium, that provider must have been approved by ISBE and the State Certification Board. ISBE will have up to date information on their web site (www.isbe.net) at all times on approved providers. Under the interim rules covering July 1, 2000 to January 1, 2001, providers did not need to be approved.

* * Spring of 2001 - Teachers whose certificate is up for renewal on July 1,2001 will submit their application and $25 fee to the ROE and will receive a five year Standard teaching certificate. This process will be similar to the manner in which teaching certificates have been renewed in the past.

* January 1, 2001 to April 30, 2001 - Teachers who received a new five year standard teaching certificate in 2000 will need to submit a CRP to the LPDC during this time period. They will include activities that they started and/or completed between July 1, 2000 and January 1, 2001. If new activities are started in the Jan. 1, 2001 to April 30, 2001 time period, a CRP should be filed before they begin.

* * January 22, 2001 - This date is the first day of the second semester in District 300. It is the earliest date that a person whose certification cycle starts July 1, 2001 can submit a CRP in order to get an early reaction to the CRP proposal and/or to be ready to engage in creditable activities from the beginning of the new certificate's period of validity. The most recent opinion that we have received is that a teacher cannot submit a CRP until after the ROE has renewed their certificate. Our ROE has indicated that they will start processing renewals this spring but those renewals will not be posted until July 1, 2001.

* * July 1, 2001 - Activities that a teacher begins after this date that are cited in their pending or approved CRP will count towards their recertification requirement. Under one opinion from ISBE, activities that are begun before this date but not completed until after it, will count toward the professional development requirement if there is a CRP pending or approved at the time of the completion of the activity.

* * October 29, 2001 - Certificate Renewal Plans (CRP's) are due by this date to meet the requirement of being submitted no later than 120 days after the beginning of the renewal cycle. (July 1, 2001)

* * * June 30, 2002 - Teachers who certificates expire on this date should submit their application for renewal to the ROE along with the $25 fee. Payroll deduction for this fee has been waived for 2002 so individuals must submit payment with their application.

* * * July 1, 2002 - For teachers whose renewal is on this date, activities that are completed on or after this date that are cited in their pending or approved CRP will count towards their recertification requirement.

August 6, 2002 - This is the date of the next scheduled meeting of the CUSD #300 LPDC.

* * * October 29, 2002 - Certificate Renewal Plans (CRP's) are due by this date to meet the requirement of being submitted no later than 120 days after the beginning of the renewal cycle. (July 1, 2002) There is no penalty for not submitting the CRP on time other than the 5 year period in which activities are to be completed is reduced by the length of time delay, and any activities completed during the period when no CRP was on file will not be counted toward the recertification requirement.

Note: This list is subject to change through rulings by ISBE and the State Certification Board as well as requirements of the LPDC.
